According to local legend, the king of Ithaca, Odysseus, remained in the wider area of Lake Preveli after the end of the Trojan War on his return to Ithaca from Troy. The area is a popular tourist destination due to the river, the forest with palm trees in the gorge along the banks of the river, and the sandy beach with clear turquoise waters. On the beach, there is a rock in the shape of a heart, "The Lovers’ Stone" according to the locals. The area is accessible from the port of Plakias.

ReplyDeleteOur son was checking out travel to Greece in the newspaper yesterday. He hasn't wanted to travels overseas since the whole Covid thing. ReplyDeleteNice meme on Crete J.V, we've been to Greece several times and some of the islands but have missed Crete. My favorite is Patmos and being able to visit the cave where John received the vision of Heaven from Jesus which he received and mainly transfered then to the Bible book of Romans.
ReplyDeleteOur last visit besudes Athens was a monastery high atop one of the very steep mountains.
We've traveled a lot, at least 82 countries, not counting provences and dependencies such as Canada. Also all 50 U.S. states.
